Lüneburg is a beauty: medieval houses next to brick Gothic churches and romantic harbours. But sadly not everyone has the opportunity to visit this lovely town. Surely many people would do so if they could get a glimpse of its picturesque squares and alleys before planning their trip. We wanted to give potential tourists a chance to experience Lüneburg in advance. Therefore we rebuilt the city in a digital realm. Our goal was to explore how game design structures can be implemented as part of the city’s marketing in order to approach new potential visitors. Lüneburg 3D recreates the town’s central square “Am Sande”. It is a tool that could have enabled digital tourists to explore the place, examine its buildings in extreme detail and listen to recordings about its historical background.
